The General Rule
Treat variables just like ordinary numbers
AddingVariables
a + a + a + a + a = 5a.
b + b + b + b = 4b.
f + f + g + g + g = 2f + 3g
Subtracting Variables
7f - 3f = 4f
19g - 6g = 13g
Multiplying Variables
4 x 3p = 12p
6 x 5m = 30m
Dividing variables
18x ÷ 3 = 6x
21w ÷ 7 = 3w
